Change Lives: Be a REACH Mentor
When you volunteer as a mentor to high school students in REACH programs, you have the chance to play an important role in shaping the next generation of health care professionals. As a mentor, you'll be paired with a rising high school senior MedSTEM Pathways intern to provide college- and career-focused advice, share your own experiences and offer guidance in applying to colleges and jobs.
About the Program
- Virtual college- and career-focused mentoring
- Commitment is seven months (June – December)
- Rising high school seniors in MedSTEM Pathways are paired with Rush health care professionals from a variety of careers, both clinical and non-clinical
- Mentors and mentees meet at least once a month
- REACH provides mentors with a packet of activities and resources
- REACH facilitates optional virtual activity nights each month
Mentor Requirements
- Be a Chicagoland health care professional or graduate student with at least two years of work experience
- Hold an associate’s degree or higher
- Have enthusiasm for guiding and working with youth
- Commit to meeting with your mentee at least once per month
- Attend one virtual training session in early June
- Attend a virtual mentor/mentee meetup in early June
- Attend bi-monthly meetings with the program coordinator
